Artist in Residence – Artist’s quarters Lofoten

We announce temporary residencies for one or two  artists up to three months,  where you can choose the length of the  period and living arrangements, where both apartments and rooms in the  main house are alternatives. The main building is three stories high and includes four studios, one photo studio with a large Epson printer,  multiple bedrooms, two kitchens, a living room and a meeting room.

The residence artists are free to use their time at their own disposal, but we encourage them to contribute to the local environment – either  through exhibitions at a later time or workshops/artist talk during the stay.

The applicant is asked to describe plans, include a résumé  and a summary of the reasons for wanting to work in Lofoten and the  preferred time periods for the visits. Young artists have a priority,  but we want artists of different ages to apply for the residency.

About Artist’s quarters Lofoten: Situated in the center of Lofoten, lies the collective studio  “Kunstkvarteret”, where four local artists have permanent studios and  guest artists visit periodically.  There has been several international symposia and seminars organized since its inauguration in 2008, and we have now established an “artist in residence” – program in collaboration with Nordland County  along with the Vestvaagoy municipality. “Kunstkvarteret” is located in  the middle of the island, next to Leknes, that has an airport and covers most needs.  10 minutes away is Stamsund, with one gallery, 3 permanent theaters, an annual theatre festival and a dock with access to the  “hurtigrute”( The ship going to the mainland). One hour away is the Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter,  Nordland Kunst og Filmfagskole, the Caviar factory ( a new big venue for art) and multiple  galleries.  ”Artscape Nordland” has several sculptures nearby, and LIAF-  Lofoten International Art Festival- is arranged in the neighboring  municipality.
