A pop–up exhibition “Unknown.Variable” at the floating art gallery NOASS
A pop –up exhibition “Unknown.Variable (“Nezināmais. Mainīgais”) by four young Latvian female photographers will be open for the public for three days starting from November 27th – 29th at the floating art gallery NOASS (AB dam 2, Riga ).
All artists represented in the exhibition are interested in factors that affect person’s identity and its changes during time. They strongly turn attention to their personal stories and build them by using ideas and artistic practice of post-photography theory.
In the exhibition “Unkonwn. Variable” Egita Podniece explores the sense of home and thin boundaries between place and person’s identity; Kate Švinka presents the visual story about religion and questions its meaning in modern society; Gita Jankovska shows series of photographs about her own experience of growing and becoming the person she is now, highlighting the fact that memories and unconsciousness have a huge role in building personal identity. Last but not least, Jekaterina Sjomkina through her work offers to discuss the issues of female representation.
