Kate Krolle’s solo exhibition “I could be elsewhere”

A small patch of light begins to pulse in a room like a newly born kitten. Not seeing a thing, anxiously gasping for air for the first time in its brief period in existence. Adherence to instincts is the only logical and possible subsequent course of action.
Unlike a kitten, a human child learns not to rely on his instincts or to succumb to them. Their clear power can only be enjoyed in moments when we are surprised unprepared; in moments when our trained mind gives in to this strange monster.
Loneliness is an animalistic instinct.

In terms of form, the exhibition “I could be elsewhere” is an ensemble of different works, in which the question of loneliness is revealed along with its natural nature in the context of human existence. About landscapes and light and the darkness hiding therein. About its awareness and its place in the cosmic order.

About the body as a mediator between the space of thought and the sequence of events here on Earth.

The landscape of my flesh opens up like the universe.
We belong to that which we do not know.

Kate Krolle (born 1984) is a graduate of the Art Academy of Latvia and the prestigious Le Fresnoy contemporary art school in France, where she received the “Les amis du Fresnoy” award. Using the most diverse media, the artist examines the relationships between nature and human life that interest her, along with experience and instincts. Occupying both buildings at the “NOASS” floating arts centre, “I could be elsewhere” is the artist’s second solo exhibition, which concurrently also launches the programme of events comprising the “Waterpieces 2016” festival.

This exhibition at the “NOASS” floating arts centre will be on view from 1August 19–  October 7, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 11:00 – 19:00. Admission: free of charge. Exclusively on Thursday  6th of October exhibition will be open from 11:00 – 21:00  and you will aslo have a chance to meet the artist – Kate Krolle in person.
